Our Top Tips & Essentials for Crabbing

1 – Find a suitable spot in the harbour wall (be careful now, the harbour walls can be dangerous so take care).

2 – Tie your bacon onto your line (crabs love the rind the best!)

3 – Drop your line in the water… and wait! The shore crab, the most common crab in Devon, needs a little coaxing. 5 minutes should do it!

4 – Raise your line, it should feel a little heavier, and observe. Clustered to your now half-eaten bait should be a few happy crabs munching away! If not, you may have to wait a little longer.

If you want to keep your crabs in your bucket for a while, make sure you only put a few in at a time – they don’t like crowds! Also, be sure to place your bucket in the shade as crabs are not used to being out in the sun.

5 – After you have observed their quirky antics, carefully place them back into the water. They are not edible please don’t try them on the BBQ! Simply let them go back into their home.
